Near St Albans

Throughout West Virginia, the beauty of rolling hills and valleys merge with the welcoming neighborhoods the Mountain State is known for. A short drive west from the bustling Charleston following the Kanawha River is the city of St. Albans. A town as equally picturesque as it is laid back, St. Albans has many outdoor areas to explore and charming people to meet.

The city of St. Albans was first organized in 1816 under the name of Philippi but it wasn't until 1868 that it became an incorporated city - and even later in 1872 when it received its current name. St. Ablans refers to a British-Christian martyr who had an English city and Vermont city named after him - the latter being the birthplace of C&O Railroad founder H.C. Parsons. It's after Parson's honor that the West Virginia town received its name.

If you feel like spending the day in St. Albans, there's no better way to do that than surrounded by the great outdoors. The riverside/mountain view from the Roadside Park is simply stunning, and the Cunningham Memorial Park offers a quiet area to stroll around.

In the evening, plan some family fun at the Venture Lanes Bowling Alley, a popular place for residents to have fun without spending too much money. Dining is also a popular pastime in St. Albans due to the wide variety of family-owned eateries in the area. If you like Pizza, Lorobi's is the best. If you prefer family-style fare, Shucker's or Dwight's are up your alley. Or if you're just looking for a great place with a riverfront view, head to Grumpy's Waterfront Grille.
